As Game Designer, you will help establish and maintain the vision for games, toys, books and other educational products through close collaboration with all of LeapFrog's internal and external production teams. You will help guide a talented development team in designing and building new projects on proprietary LeapFrog hardware platforms and other devices. Tasks include spearheading the creative process, developing initial concepts, working with educational advisors to insure seamless curricular integration, providing clear, actionable feedback to external partners, evaluating deliverables, plus tracking and reporting progress to all other departments.


Your skills include a high attention to detail, the ability to react assuredly to changing business parameters, and shipping top-quality projects on time and on budget. You'll need past experience designing successful games on the Web, mobile, PC, handhelds and/or consoles.



  • Drive the game design through all phases, from concept, presentation, implementation, tuning and release
  • Design and maintain all game mechanics, characters, storylines, asset lists, AI behaviors, text and dialogue with comprehensive documentation
  • Assist in the design of the UX, through UI screens, support screens, game levels, and reward systems
  • Design curricular elements of the gameplay experience (with support and input from educational advisors)
  • Track and review game deliverables
  • Communicate with the team and other departments
  • Contribute to current and future game, toy, books and other concepts



  • Game Design experience, preferably as lead, on 3 or more published projects including licensed and original IP
  • A passion for creating high-quality, innovative products that educate and entertain kids
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of recent trends in all areas of gaming (Mobile, Console, Social, etc.)
  • An eye to future technologies that can be applied to future LeapFrog products
  • Strong creative and editorial skills for developing original and licensed products
  • Ability to understand technical parameters as they apply to design implementations
  • Works well within cross-functional teams: including hardware, educational, marketing, etc.
  • Ability to work with both internal and external development teams.
  • Knowledge of contemporary video games: handheld design experience preferred
  • Knowledge of common videogame industry practices
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of other multi-media software a bonus



Bachelor's degree in Game Development or a related field, and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the area of Game Design; or any combination of experience and education that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and ability to perform assigned tasks.
